my roots in lumber

The roots of the Krabbe family in Koekange, The Netherlands,  reach back five generations to carpenter Albert Krabbe, my great-grandfather.

Albert was born in 1843 in the German village of Brantleght.  He left Germany and came to Koekange, Netherlands, where he established with a partner, carpentry shops in three communities.

My father (also Albert) emigrated to Canada in 1952 with my mother, sister and two brothers and in 1954 purchased a farm near Alma, Ontario.

My maternal grandfather, Jacob van Reisen, was in partnership with van Timmer in a sawmill, furniture and door factory in Meppel, The Netherlands which operated until 1947.   After the sawmill, my grandfather operated a home construction business until he retired.
